Broncos safety Jeff Gowdy had seven tackles and two interceptions in FSU's 29-28 win over Shaw.A standout defensive back who helped usher in one of the most successful eras in Fayetteville State football, Jeff Gowdy Jr. established himself as one of the premier defenders in the CIAA while building a legacy of excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

A native of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Gowdy was a cornerstone of the Broncos' secondary from 2006-09. During his career, he earned All-CIAA honors three times, including Second Team recognition in 2007 and First Team accolades in both 2008 and 2009. He was also selected as a Preseason All-American entering the 2008 campaign and earned NCAA Division II All-Super Region I and HBCU All-Star honors following his senior season.

Gowdy played a pivotal role in Fayetteville State's historic 2009 season, helping lead the Broncos to the CIAA Football Championship, the program's first conference title in more than three decades. His ball-hawking ability, instinctive play, and leadership made him one of the conference's most respected defenders.

Among the most significant achievements of Gowdy's career is his place in the Fayetteville State record book. He finished with 16 career interceptions, a total that remains tied for the most in school history, cementing his status as one of the greatest defensive backs to ever wear the Bronco uniform.

Excellence extended beyond the football field. Gowdy was named to the CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic Team in 2008 and earned FSU Academic Excellence recognition in 2009. He was also the recipient of the team's Coach's Award during his senior season, recognizing his leadership, dedication, and impact on the program.

After graduating from Fayetteville State University in 2010, Gowdy continued to distinguish himself professionally. He served with the United States Border Patrol and later became the Chief Executive Officer of Envigorate Renewable Energy Services, while earning certification as a NABCEP Certified Energy Practitioner.

Through championship success, record-setting performance, academic achievement, and professional accomplishment, Jeff Gowdy Jr. exemplifies the ideals of Fayetteville State University Athletics. His contributions to Bronco Football and his continued success beyond graduation make him a deserving member of the 2026 Fayetteville State University Athletics Hall of Fame.
