Six Straight: Fayetteville State Extends CIAA Indoor Dynasty Behind Kiplimo’s MVP Brilliance

2026 CIAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships

MILL SPRING, NC-- Fayetteville State completed another dominant run at the CIAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Tryon International Indoor Track & Field facility. The Broncos outpaced Claflin (123.5) and Winston-Salem State (113), capturing the program's sixth consecutive indoor title with 133 points. Head coach Inez Turner was named CIAA Coach of the Year, her sixth straight honor.

The Broncos set the tone on Day 1, surging to the team lead through powerful distance and field event performances. Faith Kiplimo opened her championship sweep by winning the mile in 5:03.46, with Pelisha Kosgei taking second, and seniors Nia Gibson and Videlma Jebet adding fourth and fifth to deliver a decisive early margin. The Distance Medley Relay extended the momentum as Jebet, Kiplimo, Ashley Bell, and Kosgei won in 12:37.60 (HBCU #3, DII #40). In the field, Mikalyn Chambers finished second in the long jump at 5.77m (18‑11.25) and fourth in the pentathlon at 2,841 points after winning the pentathlon long jump. Teammates Taniya Dickerson, Tanzania Washington, and Sanai Phillips added steady marks to help FSU close the opening day in front, 54–46 over Winston-Salem State.

On Day 2, the Broncos closed with authority. Kiplimo delivered a signature moment in the 800m: after being clipped in traffic on the third lap, tumbling to the back of the pack, then mounted a stunning surge over the final 300 meters to reclaim the lead and win in 2:14.95 (PR; HBCU #18, DII #67). She followed with a commanding victory in the 3000m at 10:30.90 (HBCU #8), adding to her Day 1 titles in the mile and DMR to finish with 32.5 points and the CIAA Women's Indoor MVP – Running Events award.

The distance unit delivered a meet‑tilting haul in the 3000m as Jebet placed second, Kosgei third, and Irene Jeptoo sixth. In the sprints, junior Sierrah Matthews clocked a season‑best 56.53 for fourth in the 400m (HBCU #29, DII #68), and the 4x400m relay of Sanai Forte, Malaysia Barber, Bell, and Matthews capped the scoring with a time of 3:52.58 (HBCU #20, DII #44). Field depth continued to pay off as senior Sheree Wright won the high jump at 1.63m (5‑04.25), freshmen Jayda Wilson and Kimora Chawlk added fourth and fifth, Aaliyah Whyte and Adriana Quamina combined for nine points in the shot put. Chambers secured fifth in the triple jump.

With six straight CIAA indoor crowns, an MVP performance for the ages from Faith Kiplimo, and Coach Inez Turner earning her sixth consecutive Coach of the Year award, the Broncos didn't just defend a title—they reinforced a standard. The dynasty endures, and the culture keeps winning.
