PETERSBURG, VA - Fayetteville State University surged into first place after day one of the CIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, totaling 59.26 points to edge Winston-Salem State (56) and Virginia State (46).

The Broncos posted points across multiple disciplines on Friday, highlighted by distance dominance, field event success, and several qualifiers advancing to Saturday's finals.

Sophomore Faith Kiplimo delivered one of the top performances of the day, finishing second in the women's 1500 meters with a time of 4:37.92, earning eight points. She also advanced to the 800-meter final after clocking 2:14.45 in prelims.

Senior Ashley Bell added valuable points with a fifth-place finish in the 1500 meters (4:50.39), while Videlma Jebet (7th) and Nia Gibson (8th) combined for additional scoring as Fayetteville State piled up points in the event.

In the throws, freshman Adriana Quamina captured a CIAA title in the women's discus, launching a winning throw of 44.35 meters (145-06) to secure 10 points. Quamina also added points in the javelin, finishing seventh.

Senior Aaliyah Whyte turned in a standout day as well, placing second in the shot put with a mark of 13.50 meters (44-03.50) to earn eight points. Quamina followed closely behind in fourth, while sophomore Paige Simmons-Norris added points with a seventh-place finish.

Senior Abraonna Williams contributed five points with a fourth-place finish in the long jump (5.57m).

Freshman Taniya Dickerson impressed in the hurdles, qualifying for the 400-meter hurdles final with a time of 1:04.15, while also competing in the 100-meter hurdles.

Sierrah Matthews highlighted the quarter-mile, qualifying for the 400-meter final with a time of 56.60, one of the top marks of the day.

With 59.26 points through day one, Fayetteville State holds a slim but important lead over Winston-Salem State entering the final day of competition. With several finals and scoring opportunities still ahead, the Broncos are well-positioned to contend for the CIAA outdoor championship.
