Freshman high jumper Jayda Wilson begins her collegiate journey with the Fayetteville State University women’s track and field program, bringing size, potential, and competitive drive to the Broncos’ jumps squad. Standing 5’10”, Wilson arrives from Spring Lake, North Carolina, where she competed at Overhills High School and developed into a promising high-jump talent.
A 2025 graduate, Wilson made significant strides throughout her prep career, culminating in earning the 2024 Most Improved Track Athlete Award—a reflection of her steady growth, strong work ethic, and rising performance as a jumper. In addition to her success in track and field, she also competed in basketball, showcasing her athletic versatility and natural physical tools.
Now a Business Administration major and NCAA freshman, Wilson looks to elevate her skills under the guidance of Fayetteville State’s coaching staff. She chose Fayetteville State University because of its balanced environment—one that supports both academic achievement and athletic development. The university’s dedicated coaches, strong academic programs, and welcoming community played key roles in her decision.
Wilson credits her mother, Loren Matlock, as the most influential person in her life. She draws inspiration from her mother’s strength, perseverance, and the example she has set throughout Jayda’s upbringing. That support has helped fuel Jayda’s confidence as both a student and an athlete.
One of her favorite athletic memories comes from her junior year of high school, when both the women’s and men’s track teams at Overhills High won the conference championship, a moment that strengthened her love for the sport and the camaraderie it brings. Off the track, Wilson enjoys reading and watching movies, finding comfort in quiet moments that balance her busy academic and athletic schedule.
After completing her degree, Wilson plans to pursue a career in marketing, with aspirations to help organizations grow their brand, reach audiences, and build meaningful engagement—an ambition she believes pairs perfectly with her Business Administration background.
With her height, raw ability, and determination, Jayda Wilson is poised to grow into a valuable contributor for the Broncos’ track and field program as she begins her collegiate career.
