WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The Fayetteville State women's track & field team turned in a strong two‑day showing at the Camel City Sprints and Camel City Distance meets, held Feb. 6–7 at the JDL FastTrack in Winston‑Salem, N.C. The Broncos posted a variety of strong efforts against deep fields, highlighted by standout runs from the sprint group, major progress in the jumps and throws, and nationally competitive marks in the middle‑distance events.
The competition opened Friday with the Camel City Sprints, where the Broncos showed depth across the short‑sprint lineup. In the 60 meters,
Amaya Cummings led the group with a 7.98, followed by
Ziyah Etchison at 8.20 and
Ma'Ryah Hargrove at 8.28. In the 60‑meter hurdles,
Taniya Dickerson impressed with a 9.14, with
Tanzania Washington (9.48) and
Sanai Phillips (9.83) following. The 200 meters saw standout performances from
Malaysia Barber, who clocked 25.60, along with Cummings (25.74), Dickerson (25.92), Hargrove (27.13), and Etchison (26.96) in the seeded division.
The Broncos also posted strong results in the 400 meters, where
Sanai Forte ran 58.04, and
Sierrah Matthews followed with 58.76, both competing in the seeded section. Washington returned for the 600 meters, finishing in 1:59.17. In the long jump,
Abraonna Williams landed at 5.33m (17'6"), followed closely by Chambers at 5.31m (17'5.25") and
Holley Johnson at 5.13m (16'10"). In the women's weight throw,
Aaliyah Whyte led the field group with a 15.29m (50'2") mark, while Paige Simmons‑Norris posted a personal best 11.71m (38'5").
Saturday's Camel City Distance races showcased some of the best middle‑distance efforts of the season, paced by
Faith Kiplimo, who delivered two elite results against high‑level competition. Kiplimo placed 7th in the 1500m with a 4:38.26, then returned for the seeded mile, finishing 8th in 4:59.41. The mile group added strong depth as Videlma Jebet ran 5:19.74,
Nia Gibson clocked 5:31.58, and
Repline Cheptoo posted 5:51.69. In the 800 meters,
Ashley Bell recorded a season highlight with a 2:24.28, and in the 3000 meters,
Pelisha Kosgei finished in 10:28.15.
The Bronco throwers closed the weekend with major momentum in the shot put, where Whyte secured another top‑10 finish at 13.00m (42'8"), followed by Adriana Quamina at 12.50m (41'0.25") and Simmons‑Norris at 11.81m (38'9"), another personal best.
The Broncos now shift their focus to championship preparation. The next meet will be
Feb. 15–16 in Mill Spring, N.C., where Fayetteville State competes in the
CIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
