GAME 2 | Fayetteville State 8, Bluefield University 3
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville State rode a fast start and a dominant complete‑game effort from Tamarah Lowery to secure an 8–3 win over Bluefield University on Monday afternoon, earning its second straight victory and improving to 6–9 on the season.
Lowery (3–2) controlled the game from the circle, striking out seven while allowing just five hits and one earned run across seven innings. Despite issuing six walks, she repeatedly worked out of traffic and held the Rams to just 2‑for‑13 with runners in scoring position.
The Broncos wasted no time giving her support. In the bottom of the first, Cheyenne Payne drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and scored on an infield RBI single from Aniya Caldwell to give FSU an early 1–0 lead it never surrendered.
Fayetteville State broke the game open in the third with a four‑run surge. Caldwell doubled to left and later scored on a single from Tierra Stueck, sparking a string of productive at‑bats. Walks to Treja Patterson, Kendall Jackson, and Claira Stone extended the inning before Lowery herself drew a bases‑loaded walk to push the lead to 4–0. Jazzmyn Ohlson capped the frame with an RBI infield single, sending the Broncos ahead 5–0.
Bluefield trimmed the gap with two runs in the sixth, highlighted by a solo homer from Kenidy Harris, but the Broncos responded immediately with a three‑run bottom half. Isabella Rumbold started the rally with a leadoff single before Vangilees Chambers and A'Leah Wilson forced back‑to‑back defensive miscues that widened the lead to 7–2. Madison Heath added an RBI single to right field to extend the margin to 8–2.
The Rams pushed across one unearned run in the seventh, but Lowery closed the door without further damage to finish off her complete‑game victory.
Caldwell led the Broncos offensively, going 2‑for‑3 with a double and an RBI, while Heath added two hits and an RBI. Fayetteville State recorded nine hits and drew eight walks in the win, producing its highest‑scoring output in six games.
Fayetteville State continues its homestand later this week as the Broncos take on the Carolina Bruins Saturday, March 14, at 12 PM and 2 PM at Lamon Street Park.
