Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Fayetteville State mounted a dramatic comeback in the top of the seventh inning, but Bowie State answered with a walk-off blow in the bottom half to hand the Broncos a 5–4 loss Thursday night in the final game of the 2026 season at the North Road Complex.
The Broncos close the year with a 19–21 record, while the Bulldogs improved to 22–20 after securing the win in the nightcap of the tournament matchup.
After six scoreless innings from Fayetteville State despite multiple scoring chances, Bowie State broke through first in the bottom of the fourth. A pair of unearned runs crossed the plate following defensive miscues, giving the Bulldogs a 2–0 advantage against Broncos right-hander
Tamarah Lowery, who otherwise limited Bowie State to modest contact. Lowery finished the game allowing five runs, three earned, with several key strikeouts before taking the loss and ending the season at 8–8.
Fayetteville State's offense came alive in the seventh.
Xzstashya Porter sparked the rally with a single, and
Vangilees Chambers laid down a sacrifice bunt to move runners into scoring position.
A'leah Wilson then delivered a clutch single to right field to drive in two runs and tie the game at 2–2. Moments later,
Sydney Jackson provided the biggest swing of the night for the Broncos, launching a two-run home run to left field that put Fayetteville State ahead 4–2 and briefly quieted the Bowie State dugout.
Jackson's homer was her lone hit of the game, but it accounted for two of Fayetteville State's four runs. Wilson finished with two runs batted in, while Porter recorded two hits to lead the offense. The Broncos totaled seven hits in the contest after being held in check for much of the night by Bowie State pitcher
Aaliyah Amos, who improved to 8–7 with the victory.
Bowie State answered immediately in the bottom of the seventh. After a one-out single and a hit-by-pitch put the tying run aboard,
Presleigh Braxton delivered the decisive blow, ripping a three-run double to center field to end the game. The walk-off hit completed a three-run frame and sent the Bulldogs to a comeback win.
Despite the loss, Fayetteville State showed resilience throughout the game, turning in several strong defensive plays and battling until the final out in a season-ending contest that mirrored much of the year's competitiveness. The Broncos fought back from an early deficit and put themselves in position to steal a win late, closing the campaign with a statement of resolve and fight as they look ahead to the future of the program.
