HIGH POINT, NC -- The Fayetteville State University track and field team descended upon High Point, NC, for the VERTKlasse Meeting on April 4-5, ready to leave their mark. The Broncos didn't disappoint, delivering a series of standout performances that highlighted their talent and determination.
The spotlight shone brightly on Holley Johnson, who soared to new heights in the Long Jump. With a leap of 5.74 meters (18' 10"), Johnson set a personal record. Her jumps were a testament to her hard work and dedication, each one pushing her closer to her goals.
Meanwhile, Brenda Cheboi was on a mission of her own. Competing in both the 1500 meters and 800 meters, Cheboi shattered her previous bests. She clocked an impressive 4:56.91 in the 1500 meters and followed it up with a 2:23.26 in the 800 meters.
Jeaneva Golden had a remarkable meet, setting personal records in both the 200 meters and 400 meters. She sprinted to a time of 25.42 in the 200 meters and clocked 57.92 in the 400 meters, showcasing her versatility and speed.
In the 100 meters, junior Mia Thompson showcased her speed, finishing with a time of 12.80. Over in the 400 meters, sophomore Sanai Forte hit a personal record with a time of 1:02.27.
The 800 meters saw a trio of Broncos pushing their limits. Ashley Bell led the charge with a time of 2:20.47, closely followed by Repline Cheptoo at 2:20.75. Cheboi rounded out the group with her PR performance.
In the 1500 meters, Cheboi's PR was complemented by strong runs from Ashley Bell, who also set a personal record with a time of 4:59.84, Repline Cheptoo (5:15.02), and Nia Gibson (5:19.61). Each athlete's effort contributed to a solid team showing.
Sanai Phillips had a busy meet, competing in both the 100 meters hurdles and the 400 meters hurdles. She set a personal record in the 100 meters hurdles with a time of 15.03 and finished the 400 meters hurdles with 1:28.44.
The 4x400 meters relay teams brought the meet to an exciting close. The squad of Jeaneva Golden, Ashley Bell, Abraonna Williams, and Repline Cheptoo finished with a time of 3:58.13, while the team of Sanai Forte, Holley Johnson, Nia Gibson, and Mikalyn Chambers clocked 4:12.28.
In the field events, Sheree Wright and Domanique Knowles both cleared 1.55 meters (5' 1") in the High Jump, showcasing their consistency and skill. Knowles also excelled in the Triple Jump, finishing with a mark of 11.78 meters (38' 7.75"), while Mikalyn Chambers jumped 11.51 meters (37' 9.25").
The Shot Put saw Aaliyah Whyte throw 13.13 meters (43' 1"), and freshman Paige Simmons-Norris threw 10.79 meters (35' 5"). Whyte also competed in the Discus, where she threw 39.50 meters (129' 7"), and Simmons-Norris set a personal record with a throw of 35.53 meters (116' 7").
The VERTKlasse Meeting was a showcase of the Broncos' hard work and potential. With personal records and strong performances across the board, the future looks bright for this talented team as they continue to push their limits and strive for excellence.
