SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Fayetteville State battled through wet, overcast conditions and used a pair of late-inning surges to defeat Converse 4–2 in eight innings on Saturday afternoon at Tyger River Stadium. The victory lifts the Broncos to 1–2 on the season, while Converse falls to 1–12.
Converse struck first in the second inning on a solo homer from A. Felker, but the Broncos stayed composed and waited for their moment. That opportunity came in the sixth when Cheyenne Payne reached and later scored on an A'Leah Wilson RBI single up the middle to tie the game. With the bases loaded moments later, Xztashya Porter was hit by a pitch, driving home Wilson and giving Fayetteville State a 2–1 lead.
Converse forced extras in the seventh by pushing across a run on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, but Fayetteville State responded immediately in the eighth. Aniya Caldwell scored the go‑ahead run on Porter's RBI single to left field, and an additional run in the frame helped the Broncos secure the final 4–2 margin.
Tamarah Lowery was outstanding in the circle for FSU, tossing a complete eight innings while allowing only three hits and two earned runs. Lowery struck out two, walked two, and worked around three hit batters to earn her first win of the season.
Payne led the Broncos with two hits, while Porter drove in two of FSU's four runs. Fayetteville State also showcased an aggressive base-running approach, swiping five bags on the afternoon.
