MILL SPRING, N.C — Fayetteville State delivered a strong showing at the Tryon Banked: College Friday meet on Friday, highlighted by event victories from
Faith Kiplimo in the 1000 meters and
Aaliyah Whyte in the weight throw. The Broncos produced more than a dozen top‑10 finishes, along with several personal and season bests.
Kiplimo led a dominant middle‑distance performance, winning the women's 1000m in
2:59.52, a personal best. FSU placed four runners in the top 10, including
Nia Gibson (7th, 3:18.46),
Repline Cheptoo (9th, 3:21.47) and
Ashley Bell (10th, 3:25.07).
Whyte continued her standout senior campaign in the throws, winning the
women's weight throw with a personal‑best mark of
16.00 meters. The performance also established new HBCU and NCAA Division II top‑100 standards for the event.
In the sprints, junior
Malaysia Barber recorded a season‑best
7.93 in the 60‑meter prelims. Barber later added an eighth‑place finish in the 300 meters with a personal‑best
41.34, while teammate
Sierrah Matthews took seventh in the same race in
40.94.
FSU also earned two top‑10 results in the women's long jump.
Holley Johnson placed eighth with a leap of
5.48 meters, and senior
Abraonna Williams followed in 10th at
5.36 meters. In the high jump, senior
Sheree Wright cleared
1.58 meters to finish fifth.
The Broncos capped the meet with a third‑place finish in the
women's Distance Medley Relay, as
Pelisha Kosgei,
Bell,
Cheptoo and
Irene Jeptoo combined for a time of
13:01.38, ranking among the top HBCU and Division II marks this season.
Fayetteville State returns to action February 6-7th, in Winston-Salem, NC, for the JDL Fast Track Camel City Meet.
