Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Fayetteville State bounced back in impressive fashion Saturday afternoon, sweeping Elizabeth City State 3-0 in CIAA Round-Up action at Whitaker Gymnasium.
The Broncos claimed the match by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-21 to improve to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in CIAA play. Elizabeth City State fell to 6-13 overall and 3-3 in conference competition.
Kemyah Harris led the Broncos with 12 kills and 14 points, adding five digs and two block assists. Mya Hejl followed with 10 kills on a .429 hitting percentage while contributing two blocks and a service ace. McKenna Miller added 10 kills and 11 points, giving Fayetteville State three players in double figures offensively.
Setter Giovanna Teixeira directed the offense with 28 assists while posting an efficient all-around performance that included four kills on seven attacks, 15 digs and a service ace. Nicolette Connell added eight digs, five assists and a service ace.
The Broncos controlled much of the opening set despite a mid-set rally from Elizabeth City State. After the Vikings erased an early deficit and grabbed a 12-10 lead, Fayetteville State responded with a 15-6 run behind strong play from Harris, Hejl and Miller to secure a 25-18 victory.
In the second set, the Broncos steadily built separation after a tightly contested first half. Leading 17-16, Fayetteville State closed on an 8-3 run fueled by multiple kills from Harris and Hejl to claim a 25-19 win and move within one set of the match.
Elizabeth City State challenged again in the third, trimming a seven-point deficit to 21-21 late in the set. Fayetteville State answered immediately, scoring the final four points of the match. Back-to-back kills from Miller helped the Broncos regain momentum before a block by Courtlynn Edwards and Teixeira sealed the 25-21 victory and completed the sweep.
Elizabeth City State was led by Kendall Washington and Jazzmyn Davis, who each recorded seven kills. Valeria Miranda paced the Vikings defensively with 16 digs, while Cameron Mitrovich finished with nine assists and three service aces.
