Junior middle blocker Mya Hejl joins the Fayetteville State University women's volleyball program after a highly successful career at Bellevue College, where she established herself as one of the top players in junior college volleyball. A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Hejl brings size, experience, and a championship mindset to the Broncos.
Before arriving at Fayetteville State, Hejl earned Two-Year College All-American honors and was named North Region MVP, highlighting her impact as one of the premier middle blockers in her region. She also earned First Team Metro Conference recognition during her high school career at Jefferson High School, where she began building the foundation for her success at the collegiate level.
Hejl chose Fayetteville State because of its commitment to excellence and the winning culture she saw throughout the athletic program.

Since arriving on campus, she has embraced the strong sense of community that defines the Fayetteville State experience.

One of the most memorable moments of Hejl's volleyball career came during her final season at Bellevue College. Competing in a championship environment and falling just short of the ultimate goal left her motivated and eager for the next stage of her athletic journey.
"Being in the championship during my last year of junior college left me hungry for the next level."
Her greatest individual accomplishments came when she earned All-American honors and was selected as North Region MVP, achievements that reflected years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.
Before competition, Hejl focuses on her faith, taking time to talk with Jesus and center herself mentally. She also journals regularly, uses music for motivation, reflects on Bible verses, and reviews her goals for the season to maintain focus and perspective.
One of the biggest influences in her athletic career has been coach Ashley Kastl, whose guidance and mentorship helped shape her development as both a player and person.
Like many athletes, Hejl has faced adversity throughout her journey. Injuries and the mental challenges that come with competitive athletics have tested her resilience, but those experiences have strengthened her character and taught her valuable lessons about perseverance and growth.
"Fayetteville State has taught me a lot of lessons that I've been able to grow from."
Away from volleyball, Hejl enjoys spending time with friends and family and balancing her busy schedule through work and personal development. She is pursuing a degree in Business and Healthcare Management and plans to attend ultrasound school after graduation, combining her passion for helping others with opportunities in the healthcare field.
Although she has not held formal leadership positions, Hejl strives to impact those around her through kindness, encouragement, and service.
"I give back by showing love in ways that I can."
As she begins the next chapter of her collegiate career, Hejl is focused on helping Fayetteville State compete for championships while continuing to grow academically, athletically, and personally.
