Howell’s 31 Powers Fayetteville State in 108-82 victory against Winston-Salem State

January 27, 2026 – (Fayetteville, NC) -- Fayetteville State delivered its most explosive offensive performance of the season on Tuesday night, dominating the second half to power past Winston-Salem State, 108–82, inside a charged Capel Arena. The win pushes the Broncos to 13–6 overall and 7–2 in CIAA play, extending their winning streak in the series to three straight and marking their largest margin of victory ever against the Rams (7-10,2-6 CIAA).

After entering halftime trailing 50–48, the Broncos erupted for 60 second-half points, overwhelming WSSU on both ends of the floor. Behind relentless defense and transition offense, FSU racked up 36 points off turnovers and 26 fast-break points, turning live-ball miscues into momentum-swinging buckets. The Rams, who shot 56.8% in the opening period, were limited to 32 points on 42.8% shooting after the break as Fayetteville State's pressure and pace took control.

Larry Howell put on a scoring clinic, finishing with 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including three triples, and a perfect 6-of-6 at the stripe. Whether stepping into rhythm threes or attacking downhill, Howell set the tone every time the Broncos needed a bucket and repeatedly punctuated FSU's second-half surge.

Guard Terrell Williams orchestrated the offense with precision, turning in a 17-point, 10-assist double-double while going a spotless 4-for-4 at the line. He also hauled in 10 rebounds, completing a triple-double and steadying the Broncos on both ends as the pace quickened.

The Broncos showcased their depth with six players scoring in double figures, fueling one of their most complete offensive performances of the season. Romeo Aquino added 15 points and six rebounds, while Travon Cooper II delivered 14 points and seven boards with his usual versatility. Darius Boben powered inside for 14 points, including a strong 6‑for‑8 effort at the free‑throw line. Ezekiel Cannedy came off the bench to knock down four threes for 12 points, and Kenneth Brayboy anchored the interior with nine rebounds, helping the Broncos dominate the boards and produce 27 second‑chance points in the victory.

Winston-Salem State opened the game with confidence behind Tyre Boykin's 25 points and a dominant 18‑rebound, 14‑point double-double from Abou Camara. The Rams hit 56.8% in the first half and led by two at the break, but turnovers and foul trouble stalled their rhythm after halftime. WSSU committed 25 turnovers, which the Broncos converted into waves of transition opportunities. Despite 48 points in the paint and 16 second-chance points, the Rams couldn't keep pace with Fayetteville State's relentless tempo and depth.

The 108–82 decision stands as FSU's largest margin of victory in the series that dates back to 1988, and it extends the Broncos' current streak against the Rams to three straight.

Fayetteville State will play host to the Southern Division leader, Claflin University (10-7. 7-1 CIAA) on Thursday, January 29 at 8 pm in Capel Arena.
