Hoehn Captures Multiple National Coaching Honors in Historic First Season

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Fayetteville State University head men's basketball coach Devin Hoehn has been named the 2026 Jack Bennett Man of the Year, capping off one of the most decorated debut seasons by any coach in NCAA Division II.

In his first year leading the Broncos, Hoehn guided Fayetteville State to a 23–7 record and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Quarterfinal. His leadership, integrity, and on‑court success established him as one of the nation's rising stars in collegiate coaching.

Hoehn's 2025–26 Awards & Championships

Coach Hoehn amassed an impressive collection of honors during his inaugural season at Fayetteville State:

National Awards

  • 2026 Jack Bennett Man of the Year Award
Recognizes a non‑Division I coach who exemplifies character, integrity, and excellence on and off the court.

  • 2026 BOXTOROW HBCU Division II Coach of the Year
Hoehn becomes the first coach in his first season to earn this distinction.

  • 2026 Clarence "Big House" Gaines Division II Co‑National Coach of the Year (HBCU All‑Stars)
Hoehn shares this national coaching honor with Larry Dixon of Morehouse College.

CIAA & NCAA Achievements

  • 2026 CIAA Men's Basketball Tournament Champion
Hoehn led the Broncos to the program's third conference title.

  • 2026 CIAA Southern Division Champion
The Broncos completed a perfect 10–0 run through the division.

  • NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Qualification
The Broncos earned a regional berth with strong national standing fueled by a 17‑game winning streak.

Additionally, Hoehn became the first coach to mentor the HBCU Division II Player of the Year at two different programs, having previously coached 2024–25 honoree Jordan Hines at Bluefield State.

A Season of Dominance and Integrity

Hoehn's Broncos were one of Division II's most explosive teams, ranking eighth nationally in scoring (89.4 points per game). Their identity was defined by aggressive pace, relentless rim pressure, turnover creation, and outstanding free‑throw production.

Undefeated at home (10–0), the Broncos surged through conference play and the CIAA Tournament before advancing to NCAA postseason competition. Their 17‑game win streak was among the nation's longest.

"As someone who has walked those CIAA sidelines, I have immense respect for what Devin Hoehn accomplished this season," said James Wilhelmi, Senior Analyst for College Insider, Inc. "He built a championship team at Fayetteville State while embodying the high standard of integrity that Jack Bennett set for all of us in this profession."

A Proven Builder of Programs

Before arriving at Fayetteville State, Hoehn led Bluefield State to its first winning season in program history and a CIAA championship game appearance. He previously served on the coaching staff at Nova Southeastern, helping guide the Sharks to a 69–20 record, an NCAA South Region title, and a Sunshine State Conference championship.

Hoehn's coaching philosophy is rooted in mental and physical toughness, basketball intelligence, and trust — traits reflected in the culture he has built at every stop.
