FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- The Fayetteville State Broncos took an early lead with a run in the first inning and maintained their advantage throughout, securing a 7-3 victory over the Livingstone Blue Bears on Saturday. Freshman Kevana Deberry (4-4) earned the win in the circle for Fayetteville State, pitching seven innings and allowing three unearned runs on 10 hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
At the plate, the Broncos were led by freshman Madison Heath, who went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. Freshman Chynna Patrick also contributed, going 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI, while freshman Treja Patterson added one hit in two at-bats, along with a walk and an RBI.
The Broncos started strong, scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to freshman A'Leah Wilson. After Livingstone tied the game at one, Fayetteville State regained the lead in the third inning with an RBI single from Patrick, making it 2-1. Livingstone managed to tie the game again at two, but Fayetteville State responded with a five-run fifth inning, highlighted by Heath's two-run home run, extending their lead to 7-2. Livingstone added one more run before the game concluded, but Fayetteville State held on for the 7-3 win.
