FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- Freshman Madison Heath racked up three hits to help lead the Fayetteville State Broncos over the Livingstone Blue Bears 6-2 on Saturday. Freshman Tamarah Lowery (3-6) earned the win for Fayetteville State, pitching seven innings and giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits, with three walks and five strikeouts.
Heath led the Broncos offensively, going 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, and three RBI. Freshman Aniya Caldwell also had a standout day at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Lowery contributed as well, collecting two hits in four at-bats and adding an RBI.
The Broncos were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board, highlighted by Lowery's run-scoring single in a two-run inning. Fayetteville State then held the Blue Bears scoreless before adding another run in the fourth inning on Caldwell's RBI double, extending their lead to 3-1. The Broncos expanded their lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning, with Heath's run-scoring double being the key hit. Fayetteville State scored again in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Heath, making it 6-1. Livingstone managed to score one more run before the game concluded, but Fayetteville State secured the 6-2 win.
