MAXTON, N.C. -- The Fayetteville State Broncos were unable to score against the University of North Carolina-Pembroke pitcher Alivia Lantzy on Thursday, resulting in a 9-0 shutout by the Braves.
Kevana Deberry (0-3 as a pitcher) started for Fayetteville State (0-8 overall) and took the loss. The Broncos' offense was led by Cheyenne Payne, who went 1-for-2 with a double.
Fayetteville State had one opportunity with a runner on third but went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. Payne reached third base in the first inning but was left stranded.
Fayetteville State pitchers faced 25 UNC Pembroke hitters, allowing six ground balls and four fly balls while striking out one.
