GAME 1 | Belmont Abbey 7, Fayetteville State 3
FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Fayetteville State Broncos struggled on Friday, falling to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders 7-3 despite the efforts of freshman Angelica Locklear, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Freshman Tamarah Lowery (0-1) got the ball to start for Fayetteville State (0-1 overall) and took the loss. Freshman Kevana Deberry was a bright spot for the Broncos, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 3.1 innings, giving up one run on no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
In the batter's box, the Broncos were paced by Locklear, who went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI. Freshman Treja Patterson put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Freshman Claira Stone also helped out for Fayetteville State, putting together zero hits in three trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Fayetteville State picked up a pair of runs in the frame.
The Crusaders then rallied to score six runs and take a 6-2 lead before the Broncos got back on the board in the fifth. Fayetteville State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Locklear, which brought the score to 6-3 in favor of the Crusaders. The Broncos were unable to get any closer, as Belmont Abbey added one run to their tally on the way to a 7-3 final.
