GAME 2 | Belmont Abbey 9, Fayetteville State 2
FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Fayetteville State Broncos got a boost from sophomore Xztashya Porter, who racked up three hits in a 9-2 loss to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders Friday.
Freshman Amber Savage (0-1) got the ball to start for Fayetteville State (0-2 overall) and took the loss.
In addition to her three hits, Porter had an RBI to lead the Broncos. Freshman Vangilees Chambers compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Junior Angelica Locklear also chipped in for Fayetteville State, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 4-0, the Broncos first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Fayetteville State got an RBI single from Porter, scoring Chambers from third base.
The Crusaders expanded their lead to 9-1 before the Broncos offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the seventh. Fayetteville State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Locklear, which tightened the Crusaders lead to 9-2. The Broncos were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
