BOWIE, Md. — Fayetteville State scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Bowie State 38-10 on Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium.
Quarterback Demari Daniels rushed for two touchdowns and threw for 146 yards, while the Broncos (3-3, 3-0 CIAA) remained perfect in conference play. Fayetteville State led 21-10 entering the final quarter before Jamari Slade returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown to spark the late surge.
Caden Davis and Bryce Council each added rushing scores for the Broncos, who piled up 193 yards on the ground and controlled the clock with sustained drives. Daniels finished with 74 rushing yards on 14 carries, and Council added 67 yards on 13 attempts.
Fayetteville State opened the scoring with a 14-play, 80-yard drive capped by Davis' 2-yard touchdown run. Council's 10-yard score in the second quarter gave the Broncos a 14-0 lead before Bowie State (1-4, 0-2) responded with a 28-yard touchdown pass from Kevin Taylor to Joseph Towler as time expired in the half.
Taylor threw for 271 yards and one touchdown, connecting with Towler six times for 132 yards, including a 70-yard strike in the second quarter. Bowie State's offense showed flashes of explosiveness, with Antwain Banks adding 52 receiving yards and Challenger Valentine hauling in a 46-yard catch.
The Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to 21-10 in the third quarter on a 35-yard field goal by Chris Coleman, but were held scoreless the rest of the way. Fayetteville State sealed the win with a 39-yard field goal from John Hernandez-Vargas and Daniels' second touchdown run of the day, a 6-yard burst with 6:13 remaining.
Slade's pick-six was one of several standout defensive plays for Fayetteville State, which recorded five tackles for loss and two sacks. Kaydin Thomas led the way with 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
