DUNCAN, SC --The Fayetteville State Broncos took a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 5-4 to the Elizabeth City State Vikings Sunday.
Jameyah Mars (0-0) took the loss in the circle for Fayetteville State (1-5). Camryn Alexander started the ballgame and went six innings, surrendering five runs, two earned, on seven hits, walking four and striking out three.
Xztashya Porter led the way offensively for the Broncos, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple and an RBI. Aniya Caldwell compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a double. Sydney Jackson also contributed, going 1-for-3 for Fayetteville State with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Fayetteville State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run flyout off the bat of Treja Paterson. The Broncos were unable to hold the lead, as Elizabeth City State scored four times over the remaining four innings to grab the 5-4 win.
