RALEIGH, NC - Fayetteville State's tennis team picked up another victory during the second half of the CIAA Roundup over the weekend.
The Lady Broncos (4-7, 4-2) scored a 5-4 victory over Elizabeth City State, with two doubles victories proving to be the difference after the teams split singles competition.
The duos of Varice Love (Fr., Fayetteville, NC) and Brittney Williams (Fr., Greensboro, NC) defeated Elizabeth City State's Christinna McLean and Samantha Craig 8-1 while Danielle Boone (So., Hallsboro, NC) and Jo'Nel Barnes (So., Baltimore, MD) picked up a third-seeded win to help the Lady Broncos carry the match.
Love had little trouble with McLean in the top-seeded singles match, winning by the scores of 6-1, 6-3. Williams defeated Tiffany Brown 6-2, 6-3 while Barnes was also credited with a singles victory for Fayetteville State.
The Lady Broncos fell 7-2 to Chowan at the roundup, but did get victories from Williams in singles play. Fayetteville State's second-seeded player clipped Tara Lunney 6-4, 6-4.
The Lady Broncos' third-seeded duo of Boone and Barnes topped Melinda Williams and Jena'y Nelson 8-3 for Fayetteville State's other victory.
Fayetteville State completed roundup play with an impressive 4-2 record. The Lady Broncos will play Southern Division foes Johnson C. Smith, Winston-Salem State and Shaw on Saturday in Winston-Salem, NC, before taking on Livingstone and St. Augustine's on Sunday in Winston-Salem.
