Rocky Mount, NC – Fayetteville State won its second consecutive women's tennis match on Sunday (March 8) with a 5-2 victory over Elizabeth City State in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on the camps of North Carolina Wesleyan College.
The Broncos (2-2 overall, 2-0 CIAA) won the Doubles point by way of a 2-1 advantage in the sets.
Lauryn Clark and
Zyaja Mattocks defeated Sanda Oo and Ma-tewah Tamba, 8-3, and
Kristin Jackson and
Jayla Wooten knocked off D'Kota Hinton-Louis and Kaylee Williams, 8-1.
FSU won four of the six Singles sets with Mattocks taking the No. 6 (6-1, 6-1) over Hinton-Louis and Wooten defeating Williams by the same score at the No. 5.
Lauryn Clark had clash at the No. 4 set against Tamba, winning 6-3 and 7-5. Cosby captured the No 2 Singles point with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat over Beatriz Neto.
Elizabeth City State's (0-1 overall) Neto and Andrea Nevola won the No. 1 Doubles play (8-3 over
Arnisha Cosby and
Kayla Williams) but didn't receive any points due to the format of match play. The Vikings two points came from Nevola defeating
Kristin Jackson 6-4, 6-0 and
Kayla Williams retiring to Sanda Oo after a 6-4, 5-2 set.
The Broncos will host Shaw University on Tuesday, March 17 on the Capel Arena courts at 1 pm.
