Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State women's tennis program traveled a short distance down Ramsey Street on Saturday (Feb. 8) and suffered a 9-0 season-opener loss to Methodist University on the Monarchs Clayton Tennis Courts.
Arnisha Cosby (Washington, DC), a preseason All-CIAA pick) went the distance in the No. 2 singles but was defeated by Megan Kidd (6-2, 6-7, 0-1).
Zyaja Mattocks (Bayboro, NC) was defeated by Catherine Smith (4-6, 1-6) at No. 6 and No. 1 Kristen Jackson (Farmington Hills, MI) was defeated (3-6, 2-6) by Jill Lawrence.
Lauryn Clark (Rocky Mount, NC) and Mattocks was defeated (2-8) in No. 3 doubles by Alexx Pratt and Valeria Matute and Jackson teamed up with
Jayla Wooten (Winterville, NC) for a 1-8 No. 2 doubles loss to Sydni Lewis and Victoria Trevino.
Fayetteville State will travel to Columbia, SC for a non-conference match against Benedict on Saturday, February 29
th.
