MEBANE, N.C. – Fayetteville State added another chapter to its storied golf tradition on Tuesday, capturing the 2026 CIAA Men's Golf Championship at Mill Creek Golf Club and securing the 28th CIAA golf title in program history.
The Broncos finished atop the team leaderboard at +8 (872), pulling away during the final round to defeat Winston-Salem State (+12 | 876) and Virginia State (+33 | 897). Fayetteville State posted team rounds of 294, 288, and 290 on the par-72 layout, reclaiming the conference crown after runner-up finishes in 2024 and 2025. The program last won the CIAA championship in 2023.
Landon Cabingas turned in one of the most impressive individual performances of the championship, earning CIAA All-Tournament Team honors after finishing with the second-lowest overall score at 215 (-1). Cabingas showcased scoring ability throughout the three-round event, highlighted by explosive stretches in each round.
In the final round, Cabingas carded birdies on holes 5, 6, 12, and 13, then delivered a momentum-shifting eagle on hole 16 to post a one-under-par 71. His second round featured birdies on holes 3, 7, 10, and 12, along with an eagle on hole 6, producing one of the lowest rounds of the tournament at three-under-par 69. Cabingas opened the championship with a steady opening round of 75, setting the tone for his All-Tournament performance.
Donald Barnett also helped pace the Broncos in the closing round with a one-under-par 71, providing steady leadership as Fayetteville State maintained its edge down the stretch. Barnett caught fire in the final round with birdies on holes 6, 8, 12, and 17, delivering clutch scoring as the Broncos held off a late push from Winston-Salem State. His consistency defined the three-day championship, as he opened the tournament with birdies on holes 2 and 6 in round one and followed with another strong effort in round two, carding birdies on holes 2, 8, 13, and 14 to keep Fayetteville State positioned atop the leaderboard.
Sutton Dreier and Patricio Ramirez supplied key counting scores throughout all three rounds, while Andrew McCarver added valuable depth to the Broncos' lineup. Fayetteville State's balanced scoring and consistency across the lineup proved decisive over the three-day championship.
With the victory, Fayetteville State reasserted itself atop the CIAA golf standings, capturing its 28th conference championship and returning to the title column after consecutive runner-up finishes, powered by depth, consistency, and All-Tournament brilliance from Cabingas.
