FAYETTEVILLE, NC --Fayetteville State's offensive firepower was on full display Monday night at Capel Arena as the Broncos outlasted Lincoln (PA) 117-107 in a high-scoring CIAA matchup. Behind three players scoring 20 or more points, the Broncos improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Lions dropped to 7-11 and 2-4 in the CIAA.
Larry Howell led the charge for Fayetteville State with a game-high 32 points, knocking down seven three-pointers and adding seven rebounds. Ezekiel Cannedy provided a spark off the bench with 22 points, including six shots from beyond the arc, while Terrell Williams orchestrated the offense with a double-double of 20 points and 12 assists.
Romeo Aquino chipped in 17 points and pulled down four offensive boards, helping the Broncos convert 10 second-chance rebounds into 15 points. Fayetteville State's defensive pressure also proved pivotal, forcing 19 Lincoln turnovers that turned into 25 points on the other end. Travon Cooper led the defensive effort with three steals.
The game was tight early, with the teams knotted at 45-45 late in the first half. Fayetteville State then erupted on an 8-0 run capped by a Williams bucket to take a 53-45 lead into halftime. The Broncos leaned heavily on their perimeter shooting in the opening period, hitting eight threes for 24 points.
In the second half, Fayetteville State never relinquished control. A 6-0 spurt midway through the frame, punctuated by an Ibrahim Kourouma three-pointer, stretched the lead to 96-82 with under seven minutes to play. Lincoln made a late push, but the Broncos' hot shooting sealed the win. Fayetteville State finished 19-of-33 from deep, shooting 57.6 percent from three-point range.
Lincoln countered with strong performances of its own. Bonard Johnson paced the Lions with 25 points, while Ronald Bridges Jr. added 23 and Draven Pilson scored 20. Lincoln shot an impressive 58.2 percent from the field and 55.2 percent from three-point range but couldn't overcome turnovers and Fayetteville State's relentless pace.
