SPARTANBURG, SC -- Fayetteville State could not overcome a strong offensive performance from Converse, falling in straight sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-23) in non-conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Broncos to 3-3 on the season.
Chiara Vittoni led Fayetteville State with eight kills, while Jasmine Culp anchored the defense with a team-high 16 digs. Giovanna Teixeira contributed 15 assists to pace the Broncos' attack.
Converse (4-1) was led by Ariel Bryant, who recorded 12 kills and 13.5 points. Alayah Robertson added eight kills with a .438 hitting percentage, and Alysha Arroyo dished out 31 assists.
Fayetteville State struggled to find rhythm early, trailing by as many as eight points in the opening set. The Valkyries maintained control throughout the second frame, and despite a tightly contested third set with nine ties and two lead changes, the Broncos were unable to force a fourth.
Chayse Daniels added one service ace for FSU, while Amihan Johnson chipped in five kills and a block assist.
Fayetteville State will return home to host Clinton College on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. in Capel Arena.
