RALEIGH, NC -- Freshman Treja Patterson went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, but the Fayetteville State Broncos still came up short on Friday, suffering defeat at the hands of the Shaw Bears by a final of 6-3. Freshman Tamarah Lowery (2-6) started and took the loss in the circle for Fayetteville State.
Offensively, the Broncos were led by Patterson, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI. Freshman Aniya Caldwell put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Freshman Madison Jackson also chipped in for Fayetteville State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
Trailing 2-0, the Broncos first put runs on the board in the third inning. Lowery came across to score the lone run of the inning for Fayetteville State and get them on the board. The Broncos deficit grew to 6-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fifth inning. Fayetteville State picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Patterson, which brought the score to 6-3 in favor of the Bears. The Broncos were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
