MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, SC, marked the first outdoor meet of the season for Fayetteville State's athletes, and they certainly made a strong impression. Competing against 30 teams from all divisions of athletics, Fayetteville State finished an impressive third overall with a score of 85 points.
Janya Moore was a standout in the women's 200 meters, securing third place with a time of 24.23 seconds, despite a challenging wind condition. Ronee Tudor also performed admirably, finishing tenth in the same event. In the women's 400 meters, Jeaneva Golden clinched fourth place with a time of 59.05 seconds, showcasing her speed and endurance.
The relay teams were particularly impressive. The women's 4x100 relay team, consisting of Malaysia Barber, Janya Moore, Ziyah Etchison, and Ronee Tudor, finished second with a time of 46.98 seconds. The 4x200 relay team, featuring Mikalyn Chambers, Janya Moore, Malaysia Barber, and Ziyah Etchison, took first place with a time of 1:39.62, demonstrating excellent teamwork and coordination.
In the field events, Holley Johnson dominated the women's long jump, securing first place with a leap of 5.58 meters. Domanique Knowles also excelled in the women's triple jump, finishing fourth with a mark of 11.96 meters. Aaliyah Whyte was a force to be reckoned with in the women's shot put, taking first place with a throw of 12.67 meters, and she also performed well in the discus, finishing fourth with a throw of 38.03 meters.
Overall, Fayetteville State's athletes delivered outstanding performances, highlighting their skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the meet. The top three teams were Coastal Carolina with 171 points, Mount St. Mary's with 100 points, and Fayetteville State with 85 points.
The Broncos will travel to Salisbury, NC to participate in the Blue Bear Relays at Livingstone on March 29th.
