COLUMBIA, S.C. (Game 2) — Benedict College completed a doubleheader sweep over Fayetteville State University with a 9-1 victory in the second game at Tiger Field on Monday.
Kierra Evans (2-4) earned the win for Benedict, pitching six innings and allowing just one unearned run on four hits while striking out three. Fayetteville State's Amber Savage (1-5) took the loss, giving up six runs (two earned) on four hits over three innings.
Benedict took an early lead in the second inning when H. Strickland reached on a throwing error, allowing T. Chambliss to score. J. Ruffin followed with a sacrifice fly to bring in Strickland. The Tigers extended their lead in the third inning with an RBI single by E. Ramirez and a bases-loaded walk to M. Blanks. J. Ruffin then singled to left field, driving in two more runs.
Fayetteville State scored their lone run in the fourth inning when Sydney Jackson walked with the bases loaded, bringing in Treja Patterson. However, Benedict continued to add to their lead with a sacrifice fly by M. Blanks in the fifth and two more runs in the sixth on a groundout by T. Gilbert and a sacrifice fly by E. Ramirez.
Fayetteville State managed four hits in the game, with Isabella Rumbold, Aniya Caldwell, Angelica Locklear, and Sydney Jackson each recording a hit. The Broncos' defense struggled, committing three errors.
