In the first game of a doubleheader, Coker's softball team delivered a commanding performance, defeating Fayetteville State 11-0.
The game, which ended in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule, showcased Coker's offensive prowess and solid pitching. M. Andrews set the tone early with an RBI double in the first inning, and the team continued to pile on runs in subsequent innings. By the third inning, Coker had built an 8-0 lead, thanks to key hits from B. Gaskins, P. Brigman, and L. Hennessy, who capitalized on Fayetteville State's defensive errors. P. Brigman further extended the lead with a two-RBI triple in the fourth inning. On the mound, M. Andrews was dominant, allowing only two hits and striking out five over five innings. Fayetteville State's A. Locklear managed two hits, but the team struggled to generate offense against Andrews. A. Savage took the loss, giving up nine hits and 11 runs (eight earned) over four innings. Coker's dominant performance in the opener set a high bar for the second game of the doubleheader.
