GAME 2 | Coker 12, Fayetteville State 11
HARTSVILLE, SC -- Claira Stone racked up four RBIs, but the Fayetteville State Broncos fell to the Coker Cobras 12-11 on Tuesday. Kevana Deberry (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Fayetteville State (0-3 overall) and took the loss.
Stone went 2-for-2 with a double and a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Broncos. Aniya Caldwell put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Morgan Jackson also contributed for Fayetteville State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board.
The Broncos lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 4-3. The Fayetteville State offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Treja Patterson and a two-run single from Jackson, which brought the score to 8-4 in favor of the Broncos.
Fayetteville State's lead had disappeared once the fifth inning came around and turned into a 9-8 Coker advantage, when the Broncos re-took control at 11-9. The Broncos added three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-RBI double from Stone. The Broncos were unable to hold the lead, as Coker scored three times in the bottom half of the fifth to grab the 12-11 win.
