Box Score CHARLOTTE, NC - Fayetteville State University (17–4, 13–1 CIAA) delivered a commanding performance on Saturday evening, sweeping Johnson C. Smith (6–15, 2–12 CIAA) in straight sets, 25–14, 25–15, 25–12, to extend its conference win streak and solidify its position near the top of the CIAA standings.
The Broncos came out strong in Set 1, led by junior setter
Giovanna Teixeira, who opened with a service ace and orchestrated a balanced attack.
Chantiya Johnson and
Amori Johnson combined for a key block, while
Symone Morris and
Ramona Pulu added kills to build a comfortable lead. Fayetteville State capitalized on multiple errors by the Golden Bulls to close out the set.
In Set 2,
Tione Freeman sparked the offense with a service ace, and Teixeira continued to shine with kills, assists, and another ace. Pulu and Morris kept the pressure on, while
Destiny Washington added energy off the bench. Despite a brief push from JCSU, the Broncos pulled away to take a 2–0 lead.
Set 3 was Fayetteville State's most dominant showing, with aggressive serving and efficient attacking.
Courtlynn Edwards led a service run with five aces, while Morris and
Chayse Daniels added kills to extend the lead. The Broncos closed the match with a kill from Daniels, sealing the sweep with a 25–12 win.
Fayetteville State was led offensively by
Ramona Pulu with nine kills, followed by
Symone Morris with seven and
Chantiya Johnson with five. Edwards paced the team with five service aces, while Teixeira added three and Daniels contributed two. At the net,
Milana Cvetkovski,
Amori Johnson, and
Chantiya Johnson each recorded a block. Teixeira also led in assists with 11, supported by Daniels with seven and Freeman with five. Morris anchored the defense with seven digs, followed by Teixeira with six and Freeman with four.
For Johnson C. Smith, Abigail Freeman led with seven kills, while Kailyn Hitch added five. Yasmine Cannon served up four aces and led the team with six assists. Ethaliah Edourd and Rylea Ross each added two assists. Hitch also led the team in digs with two, while Cannon and Marci Murrell each had one.
The Broncos will return home for Senior Night on Thursday, November 6, at 6 p.m., where they will honor their graduating student-athletes in the final home match of the regular season.
