Head Coach Tyreece Brown Named FSU’s Employee of the Year

Head Women's Basketball Coach Tyreece Brown has been named Fayetteville State University Employee of the Year by the University's Staff Senate during the annual FSU Awards for Excellence ceremony and staff appreciation luncheon in the Rudolph Jones Student Center.

"It's a great achievement," said Head Coach Tyreece Brown. "I want to thank Chancellor Darrell Allison, Athletics Director Todd Bennett, the staff senate, and everyone who contributed. It's a team award, especially with Assistant Coach Charnissa Chillers, our managers, and the whole team. It's a testament to the hard work of the team."FSU Employee of the Year Tyreece Brown

The Awards for Excellence program recognizes the accomplishments and achievements of non-faculty employees who have made significant contributions to their department, division, the University community, or the lives of others.

"This award is well deserved," said Director of Athletics Todd Bennett. " Coach Brown started as a student-athlete, became an alum, then an assistant coach, and now the head coach. You led us to the Sweet Sixteen, and I know there is more success to come."

In his first year as head coach, Tyreece Brown led the women's basketball program to its fifth CIAA Championship and first appearance in the NCAA DII Sweet Sixteen Championship game. The team finished the season with a 29-3 overall record, a 17-1 conference standing, and a perfect home record of 12-0. Coach Brown was named the CIAA Women's Basketball Coach of the Year, and two of his players, Aniylah Bryant and Morgan Graham, received individual awards. Aniylah Bryant was named the Player of the Year and Tournament MVP, while Morgan Graham was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, the team finished the fall semester with an average 3.14 grade point average.

Tyreece Brown, a native of Philadelphia, PA, graduated from FSU in 2008. He became an assistant for the women's basketball staff in 2011 and contributed to four CIAA Championship appearances, including a title in 2020.
