The Fayetteville State University golf team concluded their 2023-24 season with a seventh-place finish, posting a three-round total of 909 (+57) at the NCAA DII East/Atlantic Regional Championship in Wheeling, West Virginia. Logan Atkins of the Broncos led the effort, finishing twenty-first with a score of 224 (+11).
After the first round, FSU was tied for third place, scoring 300 (+16). Brandon Jones was the lead golfer, securing third place on the leaderboard with a 71 (E) performance. However, the Broncos slipped to ninth place after the second round, with a 303 score and a combined total of 603.Â
Despite battling through inclement weather and rain delays, Fayetteville State improved its final standing by two positions with a 306 performance. Atkins started at the 25th spot with a 75 (+4) in the opening round but added two more strokes (77) after 36 holes. He finished the tournament with his best performance of 72 (+1).
Jones finished 15-over with a total of 228 strokes, posting scores of 75 (+4) in the second round and 82 (+11) in the third round. Jack McCarthy shot a 232 (79-79-74) and Juan Lopez a 233 (82-73-78). Shaun Wixon closed out the scoring for FSU with a total of 235 (75-78-82).
