GAME 1 | Fayetteville State 9, Shaw 1
FAYETTEVILLE, NC --Sophomore Angelica Locklear totaled three hits to help lead the Fayetteville State Broncos over the Shaw Bears 9-1 Wednesday.
Sophomore Hannah Mills (6-3) got the win for Fayetteville State (12-17, 6-7). The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.
In addition to her three hits, Locklear had two RBI to lead the Broncos. Freshman Sydney Jackson furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBI. Sophomore Treja Paterson also contributed for Fayetteville State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Fayetteville State scored twice, with one run coming across on Jackson's single.
The Bears failed to push any runs across before the Broncos offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Fayetteville State offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Paterson, which brought the score to 8-1 in favor of the Broncos.
Fayetteville State held Shaw without a run before building their lead to 9-1 in the sixth inning. The Broncos scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Locklear. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as Fayetteville State coasted to the win.
