GAME 2 | Fayetteville State 6, Shaw 2
FAYETTEVILLE, NC --Freshman Kevana Deberry was mowing people down on Wednesday, striking out eight Shaw hitters over seven innings of work to help propel the Fayetteville State Broncos past the Bears 6-2.
In addition to her eight strikeouts, Deberry (6-6) went seven innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits and walking five for Fayetteville State (13-17, 7-7).
At the plate, the Broncos were led by sophomore Angelica Locklear, who went 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI. Freshman Sydney Jackson put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a triple. Freshman Xztashya Porter also helped out for Fayetteville State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Fayetteville State got an RBI single from Locklear, scoring Porter from first base.
The score stayed at 1-1 until the third inning, when the Broncos put runs on the scoreboard once again. Fayetteville State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Porter, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Broncos.
Fayetteville State held Shaw without a run before building their lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning. The Broncos scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Locklear.
Fayetteville State held the Bears without a run before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The three-run fram for the Broncos was puncuated by a junior Olivia Jackson. bringing the score to 6-1 in favor of Fayetteville State. Shaw put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Broncos still coasted to the 6-2 win.
