FSU rallies from sixth-inning deficit to knock off Johnson C. Smith 7-5

GAME 2 | Fayetteville State 7, Johnson C. Smith 5

CHARLOTTE, NC --The Fayetteville State Broncos responded from down 5-4 in the sixth inning to win in exciting fashion, tallying three runs in the seventh to secure a 7-5 victory over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls Saturday.

Sophomore Hannah Mills (5-3) started in the circle and picked up the win for Fayetteville State (9-17, 3-7 CIAA). The right-hander went three innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing no walks and striking out one. Freshman Kevana Deberry also made an impact in the circle for the Broncos, throwing four innings, giving up one run on two hits, with one walk and six strikeouts.

In the batter's box, the Broncos were led by sophomore Treja Patterson, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double, a triple and an RBI. Junior Olivia Jackson compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Freshman Aniya Caldwell also chipped in for Fayetteville State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 5-0, the Broncos first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Fayetteville State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of freshman Camryn Alexander.

The Broncos kept the deficit at 5-4 before taking the lead in the seventh. which brought the Broncos lead to 7-5. The score remained 7-5 for the rest of the game, as Fayetteville State held on for the win.
