CHARLOTTE, NC --Freshman Kevana Deberry and sophomore Hannah Mills combined to throw a shutout on Saturday as the Fayetteville State Broncos blanked the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls 2-0. JCSU is now 3-20 overall and 0-7 in conference play.
Deberry started in the circle for Fayetteville State (8-17, 2-7 CIAA), going five shutout innings while giving up five hits, walking one, and striking out four. Mills was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going two shutout innings, allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos took the lead for good in the fifth, scoring for the first time in the inning. Fayetteville State got an RBI single from sophomore Treja Patterson, scoring freshman Camryn Alexander from third base.
The Broncos then tacked on a run in the sixth inning to complete their scoring in the ballgame. That run scored on sophomore Angelica Locklear's one-out RBI double.
