GAME 2 | Fayetteville State 13, Mid-Atlantic Christian 1
FAYETTEVILLE, NC --Freshman Kevana Deberry was dominant on Tuesday, fanning eight Mid-Atlantic Christian hitters over five innings of work to help propel the Fayetteville State Broncos past the Mustangs 13-1.
In addition to her eight strikeouts, Deberry (3-6) threw five innings, giving up one run on three hits and walking one for Fayetteville State (7-14).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning with the game still scoreless. Fayetteville State scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from sophomore Angelica Locklear.
The Mustangs failed to push any runs across before the Broncos offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Fayetteville State scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run homer from freshman Xztashya Porter, which brought the score to 6-0 in favor of the Broncos.
Fayetteville State kept Mid-Atlantic Christian without a run before expanding their lead to 8-0 the following inning.
Fayetteville State held the Mustangs without a run before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Broncos scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of Porter, bringing the Fayetteville State advantage to 13-0. Mid-Atlantic Christian put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Broncos still coasted to the 13-1 win.
