Patterson collects 3 extra base hits in Fayetteville State's 6-4 victory against Bowie State

ELIZABETH CITY, NC -- The Fayetteville State Broncos (5-13 overall) secured a 6-4 victory against the Bowie State Bulldogs (9-17) on Wednesday, with the help of three extra base hits from Sophomore Treja Patterson.  FSU improves to 1-3 in conference play while the BSU drops to 4-1.

Patterson went 3-for-4, hitting two doubles, a home run, and an RBI. Freshman Xztashya Porter also had an excellent day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, while Sophomore Angelica Locklear contributed with two hits and an RBI.

Sophomore Hannah Mills (3-1) pitched seven innings, allowing four earned runs and nine hits, while striking out five and walking two. Fayetteville State scored two runs in the first inning, followed by two more in the third inning, including Patterson's solo homerun. They added another run in the fourth inning, and one more in the sixth inning.

Although Bowie State scored three runs in the game, they were unable to overcome the deficit. Fayetteville State held on to their lead and secured the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Broncos got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Fayetteville State plated two runs when Porter left the yard with Patterson aboard.

The Broncos then held the Bulldogs scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. Fayetteville State picked up two runs, including one on a solo dinger off the bat of Patterson, which brought the Broncos lead to 4-0.

Bowie State narrowed Fayetteville State's lead to 4-1 before the Broncos stretched the advantage to 5-1 in the fourth inning. The Broncos scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Porter.

Fayetteville State held the Bulldogs scoreless before building on their lead in the sixth inning. The Broncos scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Porter, bringing the Fayetteville State advantage to 6-1. Bowie State put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Broncos still held on for the 6-4 win.
