ELIZABETH CITY, NC --Xztashya Porter racked up four RBIs, but the Fayetteville State Broncos fell to the Virginia Union Panthers 9-8 on Monday.
Porter went 2-for-4 with a home run in addition to her four RBIs for the Broncos. Claira Stone compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Morgan Jackson also contributed for Fayetteville State, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos were trailing 9-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Fayetteville State's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run off the bat of Camryn Alexander.
The Broncos kept the deficit at 9-5 before closing the gap further in the sixth. Fayetteville State scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Porter, scoring Alexander and Stone, which tightened the Panthers lead to 9-8. The Broncos were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
