ELIZABETH CITY, NC --The Fayetteville State Broncos faced a tough challenge against the Virginia State Trojans (7-2 overall, 2-0 CIAA) on Monday at the CIAA Softball Roundup in Elizabeth City, NC, eventually falling to an 11-3 defeat. Despite the loss, Xztashya Porter put in a phenomenal performance, hitting 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos (4-12 overall and now 0-2 in conference play) struggled early on, trailing 11-0 by the fifth inning before they managed to put runs on the board. Porter hit a three-run homer, bringing in all three of Fayetteville State's runs. Unfortunately, the Broncos were unable to overcome the deficit and neither team scored again for the remainder of the game. Kevana Deberry (2-4 overall as the starting pitcher) suffered the loss in the circle after facing 31 Virginia State hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out two.
