ELIZABETH CITY, NC -- Sophomore left fielder Isabella Rumbold had a good game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Fayetteville State Broncos in a 9-2 loss to the Lincoln (PA) Lions, in the CIAA Roundup hosted by Elizabeth City State.
The Broncos (4-12 overall and 0-4 in CIAA play) scored their first run in the opening inning and added another in the fourth. Although the Lions (5-15, 4-0 CIAA) took the lead in the second inning, the Broncos managed to score once more in the fourth, thanks to Rumbold's RBI single. Unfortunately, they couldn't catch up to the Lions who scored four more runs, leaving the final score at 9-2.
Fayetteville State's highest-scoring inning was the fourth, and they had a good showing with runners in scoring position, going 3-for-6. The Broncos' pitchers faced 32 Lincoln (PA) hitters and managed five strikeouts while allowing six ground balls and six fly balls. Rumbold was the Broncos' best player, going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
The Lions' best player was A. Stringer, who had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. J. Cathey had a great game for the Lions, pitching seven innings of two-run ball.
