Fayetteville State XC ends season at NCAA DII Atlantic Regional Championship

Lock Haven, PA - At the NCAA DII Atlantic Regional Cross Country meet in Lock Haven, PA, the Fayetteville State women's team showcased their competitive spirit and determination. Irene Jeptoo led the way, finishing 23rd with a time of 21:52.5, while Nia Gibson followed closely, securing the 35th spot with a time of 22:15.9. Remarkably, they were the only women's team representing the CIAA, standing out among 160 runners.

The race took place on the West Branch Cross Country Course at the Stern Athletic Complex, known for its challenging terrain and scenic routes. The course conditions were favorable, with cool temperatures and firm ground, providing an excellent setting for competitive racing. However, the athletes faced several challenges, including navigating the hilly sections and maintaining pace through the wooded areas, which tested their endurance and strategic pacing1.

In the men's 10k race, Derrick Kipchumba delivered an outstanding performance, finishing 20th with a time of 31:07.0 in a field of 156 runners. His effort highlighted the talent and resilience of Fayetteville State's athletes in this highly competitive regional event.
