Biography
Derrick Kipchumba, a senior from Eldoret, Kenya, has been a dedicated member of the Men’s Cross Country team at FSU. Standing at 5’6" and weighing 110 pounds, Derrick’s journey in athletics began at Chewoyet High School, where he graduated in 2017. Before joining FSU, he attended Chicago State University. Derrick is majoring in Nursing and has earned the Players Choice Award for his outstanding contributions.
Throughout his collegiate career, Derrick has consistently demonstrated exceptional performance and leadership. He has been a key runner in numerous meets, often finishing in the top positions and contributing significantly to the team’s overall success. One of his most memorable moments was his impressive finish at the 2023 Conference Championships, where he placed in the top 10, helping the team secure a podium finish. Additionally, Derrick’s standout performance at the Regional Qualifiers, where he set a personal best time, showcased his dedication and competitive spirit.
His career aspirations include becoming a nurse practitioner specializing in informatics and anesthesia. Inspired by his parents, Kipruto and Daisy Yegon, Derrick’s motivation is fueled by the belief that “No human is limited,” a mantra by Eluid Kipchoge. Interestingly, Derrick also played soccer as a winger and enjoyed dancing during his high school years. His dedication and hard work have made him a valuable member of the FSU community.
