ORANGEBURG, S.C. --The Fayetteville State Broncos were not able to notch a run against Claflin pitcher senior Jaelyn Jackson on Saturday and were shut out 5-0 by the Panthers. Claflin improves to 25-10 on the season and 11-2 in the CIAA Conference
Freshman Hannah Mills (3-3) got the ball to start in the circle for Fayetteville State (15-17, 10-5 CIAA) and took the loss. The right-hander went six innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.
In the batter's box, the Broncos were paced by freshman Dakota Smith, who went 1-for-3 on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fayetteville State managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position. The Broncos last got a runner on third in the seventh, when freshman Angelica Locklear made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs.
