GAME 1 | Winston-Salem 10, Fayetteville State 2
FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Fayetteville State Broncos struggled on Tuesday, falling to the Winston-Salem Rams by final score of 10-2 in the first of the CIAA double header. FSU Athletics recognized five seniors - Tanika Powell, Braynka Brown, Makyiah Mitchell, Angel Johnson, and BreAnna Steele - prior to the game.
Senior Braynka Brown (2-7) got the ball to start for Fayetteville State (14-16, 9-3 CIAA) and took the loss. Freshman Jameyah Mars was a bright spot for the Broncos, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one inning, giving up two runs, zero earned, on one hit, with one walk and two strikeouts.
Freshman Treja Patterson led the way offensively for the Broncos, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBI. Freshman Izzabella Hembree compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double.
The Rams improved to 18-9 overall and 11-2 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 7-0, the Broncos first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Fayetteville State plated two runs when Patterson left the yard with junior BreAnna Steele aboard. The Broncos were unable to get any closer, as Winston-Salem added three runs to their tally on the way to a 10-2 final.
