GAME 1 | Fayetteville State 27, Saint Augustine's 0
RALEIGH, NC -- Jameyah Mars and BreAnna Steele combined to toss a shutout on Sunday as the Fayetteville State Broncos blanked the Saint Augustine's Falcons 27-0.
Mars (6-1) started and picked up the win for Fayetteville State (13-15 overall, 8-3 CIAA), going three shutout innings while giving up three hits. Steele was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going two shutout innings, allowing one hit.
Angel Johnson led the way offensively for the Broncos, going 3-for-5 in the ballgame with a double, a home run, a walk and five RBI. Izzabella Hembree provided a standout performance as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and four RBI. DeMya Smith also contributed, going 2-for-3 for Fayetteville State with a double, two walks and three RBI.
Saint Augustine's dropped to 3-20 overall and 1-14 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Fayetteville State put three runs on the board in the inning, highlighted by a run-scoring triple from T. Patterson.
The Broncos then tacked on runs in four more innings, with their biggest output coming in the fifth when they scored nine times. The big hits in that inning were a two-run single off the bat of Smith and a two-run double from Johnson.
