GAME 2 | Belmont Abbey 16, Fayetteville State 3
FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Fayetteville State Broncos struggled on Wednesday, falling to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (5-7 overall) 16-3 despite the efforts of freshman Dakota Smith, who went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI.
Senior Braynka Brown (0-4) started and took the loss in the circle for Fayetteville State (3-10 overall).
At the plate, the Broncos were led by Smith, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Freshman Angelica Locklear compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos were trailing 16-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Fayetteville State plated two runs when Smith left the yard with Locklear aboard.
The Broncos kept the deficit at 16-2 before closing the gap further in the fifth. Fayetteville State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Locklear, which brought the score to 16-3 in favor of the Crusaders. The Broncos were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
